Collaboration 1
A word - collaboration. It is very important in the scheme of understanding successful efforts, buts begs for categorization. You will hear me say over and over - “ One size does not fit all,“ and that words are a poor substitute for meaning. T S Eliot pointed out and I used his quote in my masters thesis. “I got to use words when I talk to you” in trying to deal with the characteristics of entrepreneurs.
Let’s start with the notion of successful efforts. Talk about the need for defining what effort you are trying to be successful doing. An example I often use is of our Founding Fathers. They were united in their displeasure of being a subject and victim of the monarchy of the British Empire. That common trait is absolutely necessary for collaboration. They were all different human beings, with different notions, but had a common issue. They collaborated and debated and yelled at each other and came up with a solution. Not overnight. It evolved to a revolution, then the Bill of Right, and then the Constitution.
Now then think about what a successful effort is. It can be in my main world, electrical contracting (another one size fits all). I will now use another phrase “it all depends” to further complicate matters. How about a Baseball, Basketball, Football, or for that matter, any sport in how to coach. Medical Research for children’s illnesses, investments, education, War (holy smokes), are some examples. Talent, moral compass, care and passion cannot be ignored. How about complicating things? Why, what, and how are what you seek.
Two heads are always better than one, and three better than two, and so on. This happens in collaboration if they are all focused on the mission. If not, why collaborate. The Media is a joke to me. It’s like listening and following the Pastor. or other anointed leader. Not thinking or debating or looking at the negatives and positives or others points of views. To me that is brain-washing, not learning.
